Freehand Painter offers a simple and easy solution for creating vector-based paintings. This lightweight painting application is as simple as they come. It provides a few basic tools, but many possibilities. The application lets you paint without any kind of distractions and its support for touch-screen displays can make the process quite comfortable.

The application is offered completely free of charge and it can be used on Windows XP, Vista and Win 7. Its setup package is quite small, so it shouldn't take more than a minute to download it and to install its components. Also, the modest hardware requirements should allow you to run the application even on older machines.

The user interface consists of a blank canvas and a series of basic drawing tools. You can find a paint brush, an eraser, a lasso tool, as well as a brush size and opacity tool, on the left side of the window. Colors can be picked instantly from a palette, in the lower region of the interface, where you can also define your own color ranges. All tools on the window can be hidden instantly, with a single click, if you want nothing but a canvas on your screen.

Besides using the mouse or a pen, it is also possible to draw with your finger, directly on the screen, if you have a touch-screen display. Mistakes can be corrected with an Undo option or by switching to the stroke eraser, which removes an entire brush stroke. It is also possible to use the lasso tool to select one or more strokes, after which you can move or resize them however you want.

Pros

Freehand Painter has a simple and straightforward design. Despite its simplicity, you can still create impressive paintings. The application is lightweight, it doesn't ask for too many resources and it can be installed quickly.

Cons

You may have some trouble running the application on Windows 8. With Freehand Painter, impressive paintings can be created with a few simple mouse or finger strokes.
